The project deals with the 3D reconstruction of the Imperial Palace of Kaiserslautern („Kaiserpfalz“) around 1350 in its natural environment. The aim was to virtually revive the partially vanished cultural heritage and provide visitors with a piece of their city's history. We reconstructed the Imperial Palace based on historical plans and drawings. Since the map material was partially contradictory or incomplete, a part of the project was left to personal interpretation. Research for the historical landscape relied on pollen diagrams from the 12th century. Additional information about the Imperial Palace is available through an application on the touch monitor with 360° photogrammetric models from different time periods, stereoscopic images for viewing in VR, historically documented facts, and architectural drawings from that era.
